 I forgot today was Wednesday... so you know what that means? No Wacky Fashion Wednesday today.

I'm a wee bit ashamed to admit that I haven't really done anything productive today.

Well I dropped off a package at the post office and listed some stuff on Etsy... that's about it. Oh yeah, me and the hubs met up with our pastor today to discuss River's upcoming baptism. If it wasn't for that, I'd probably still be in my favorite ratty basketball shorts and oversized El Chico's Mexican Restaurant tee shirt.... bra-less of course.

The office overhaul is going er, ok I guess. Eh, let's face it. I really didn't get much done. I tried though, I really did.

While I was moving things onto this new shelf here I spilled a ton of sequins on the floor and that was actually pretty awesome. 

I know it doesn't look like much here in the photo but it was everywhere.

I really wanted to leave it there and spread it around the carpet and leave it there until time for the next vacuuming. Who doesn't want sparkly carpet?!?!

So this is as far as I got on the office. Just moving crap up on a shelf... ppsshhh....

Here's someone you guys haven't seen in a while. My littler River! He'll be 5 months old tomorrow. Nice. He's almost old enough to get a job and help out with the bills.

And lastly for this weird post that's going nowhere: here's a new find. 

I got this 1930s farmers ledger online last week for my own personal collection of vintage ephemera and it was in worse shape than I thought it was going to be.

The seller didn't explain that it wasn't all in tact. Poo.

  In good condition, a farmers ledger like this can go for around $8-$9 but this ain't in good condition. 

Hee hee! I said "ain't".

 I think I'll resell it in my Etsy store for super cheap. I'm just not crazy about it anymore. But what I am crazy about are the 12 vintage postcards the buyer sent along with the ledger for free. Some of the postcards are from the early 1900s featuring a boarding house called Floral Home in Moores Mill, NY.

I did quite a bit of research about Floral Home and not much came up. All I found out is that it was a popular boarding house/vacation spot that was turned into a spa named Parkway Health Resort in the 50s(?). I doubt that it's still open but the postcards from this place are rare and are selling for a pretty decent price... so Etsy, here we come!

I haven't researched the other postcards just yet, but I'll be sure to share with you all the boring facts and figures when I do.

I've had this blog for almost a year now and I don't think I've ever shared with you what's in my Etsy shop. I launched my Etsy shop in 2008 (under the name Dang Special's Vintage) with the intentions of thinning out my extensive vintage dress collection. Years ago whenever I would go thrift shopping I would compulsively buy vintage gowns whether they fit or not. I lived with my parents at the time and I was running out of closet space as I was staying in the guest bedroom so I decided to let some go. Last year I began experimenting with jewelry making- I decided to sell some of my creations and relaunched the store as Modern Colors Vintage and Jewelry. So here's a wee bit of what's listed at the moment:

Named after my mother (Linda) this simple necklace is made from a broken bracelet and necklace. That's my mom and grandmother in the photo in the background ca. early 70s.

 This is a super rare book of poems by James Russell Lowell from the 1800s. I found this rare gem in my husbands enormous antique book collection.

Sketch Book by Washington Irving. (1887). Includes Rip Van Winkle and The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. This is for sure one of the most valuable items in the shop. Another find from my husband's book collection

I'm having to say goodbye to my favorite vintage blue slip- it's waaaay to small for me now and I never even had a chance to wear it. Sad face.

And I'll end with one of my faves. An original print of the 1961 piano music of the opening song from Breakfast at Tiffany's. Believe it or not, this is from my husband's collection.

You know how I'm always griping about my troubles with thrift shopping? Well, I actually had a pretty good run at Goodwill the other day. I've just come to accept that yes, they've raised their prices, but it's not going to kill be to buy a used dress for $5 or a pair of shoes for $3.50. Man, I'm cheap. When I go to a retail store and I see an awesome dress on clearance for $20 marked down from $80 I'll say to myself... "mmm, I bet I could go somewhere else and get 3 dresses or 5 shirts or 2 pair of shoes or 6 purses for $20."  So I'll go to a an even cheaper store with an even better sale and I usually don't find the 3 dresses or 5 shirts or 2 pair of shoes or 6 purses for $20... and I'll come home empty handed every time.

Ok, these are self-taken photos. How the heck did I manage to reset the camera and then run back and get into the same stance in the exact same spot?!?!?

Speaking of being cheap, I've been going .99 jewelry crazy on eBay lately. I can't even keep up with how much jewelry I've bought over the past couple of weeks or so. People tend to shy away from cheap jewelry like this because it'll fall apart after just a couple of wears, but now that I make jewelry I feel totally comfortable buying cheap jewelry because I can just fix it myself if it breaks or reuse it to make something else!

I found these adorable shoes at my Goodwill run. How do you like my rush-job airbrushed legs??

...another .99 eBay score. Every since I bought a pair of 50s chiffon gloves from Bella's Etsy shop a couple of weeks ago, I've been going glove crazy. I have another pair of white lace gloves with ruffled wrist cuffs on the way.

Wanna know something crazy about me? This is as far that I can stick out my tongue.  Hee hee! I'm tongue tied, meaning that little bit under my tongue that attaches it to the bottom of my mouth is almost at the very end of my tongue. I do indeed have a very light lisp because of it- but it's nothing major. No one seems to notice and I couldn't care less about it, so it's all good!

no WFW this week

Sorry folks. No Wacky Fashion Wednesday today. Why? I've been super tired aaaaaall day... all week actually. I'm not sure why. Maybe too much gin and novel reading at night and too much coffee and cleaning in the morning? I think I need to start exercising or eating better or something.... psshhhhh HAHAHAHAHA. No.

Easter Saturday

Today me and the husband and Baby River went to Shreveport, LA to visit some family for Easter Saturday. 

The drive there was fun and the weather was wonderfully "gloomy" with fluffy grey clouds and low rumbling thunder in the distance... believe it or not that's just how I like it. 

 I originally wanted to wear a flowing white springtime ensemble but thanks to my new grossly heavy post-birth monthly... white was completely out of the question. I am very disappointed with what I chose to wear. I feel it was boring and kind of lazy looking for the occasion  Oh, well. I've got another shot at coming up with something a bit more fashionable for Easter Sunday.

I'm wearing a thrifted dress with a hand-me-down top over it just in case you were wondering what this blah ensemble consisted of.

Yes, I'v'e got a gin and juice in my hand there. Very tasty.

So, yesterday I got super glue in my hair. Yup.

I was trying on a steampunk hair clip I made and failed realize that the glue was not yet dry. When I removed the clip, it tugged at my hair a bit so I thought my hair had gotten caught in a gear or something. Lo and behold the barrette left behind a nice trail of super glue. So to cover it up, I just pinned my hair up and added some pretty fabric flowers. 

I'm not sure of how I'm going to get the glue out but I'm pretty sure it's going to involve scissors.

The hostess' home is full of all sorts of wonderful antique doo-dads and pretty things. Many of you would have lost your minds googling over her beautiful vintage findings and heirlooms.

 For some unknown reason, I found myself a bit restless at this shindig so I walked around and snapped some photos of whatever caught my eye. 

There were sugary nom noms to enjoy...

... and a little egg hunt for the wee ones.

 Caleb's cousin Sarah revealed the gender of her baby to the family with this cute little cake. In case you can't tell by the pink border and pink cake: she's having a girl.

And last but not least, our first family photo since the day River was born! A little past due, huh?

River's the best at making pucker lips in photos. It's so hard to capture his wonderful smile.
