ice claw

It's cold as you-know-what here and I'm loving it! You know what else I'm loving? Taking donuts with me to eat on the road while I run errands. I'm also loving farting out crappy generic posts on my new frugal-living-mom-blog. Yeah, it's not just a mom blog anymore. It's a frugal living mom blog now. Why? Because I know a lot about being poor frugal. Anyways, I've just been making quick daily posts on there to try to catch some attention and it's kinda fun. I know it's going to take a while to build an audience so I'm just going to do what I do best: blog and boogie oogie oogie.
I've been checking out super popular mom blogs and the most successful ones all have a theme: DIYing or home schooling or parenting advice or kids fashion or "hippie" living - "hippie" usual means vegan on those blogs. Nothing more. Not groovy people at all. Just vegans.
So I decided I need focus on one thing for my blog and that's frugal living. Neat.
So, moving on I'm all layered up to go do mom stuff, you know like, grocery shopping and killing vicious predatory hawks with crossbows.
Gotta protect my youngins.
I'm layered in an assortment of hand-me-downs and clearance rack garments.
Oh! And my sew fantastic wristwarmers made by Pao of Project Minima.
Me also be rockin' a bare face, double mini buns and Kuchi tribe earrings. Why do I wear these earrings all the time? you might be asking yourself. The coins you see on the earrings are real so the earrings are very very heavy. They weigh my ear holes down for effortless and gentle stretching to help me get to the my next (and final) size.

While out running errands I swung by an outdoor flea market. It's um.... yeah.
I didn't go to shop, I went so River could get some fresh air an run about a bit. A few minutes into our visit I totally started to regret my decision to go. I failed to realize the flea market would be full of stuff River can't touch or drag along with him or take home so.... he had a full blown screaming bloody murder making strangers stare hissy fit.
Embarrassed, I grabbed him up and raaaaaaan to the car to hurry up and get outta there. Then we got to the grocery store and all was fine once he was able to "drive" the cart about.
And then when I got home, my husband presented me with the claw of a prehistoric beast made completely from ice. He slaughtered it himself and we ate it for dinner that night.
Ice dino soup.
That'd be just water.
Ok, we're not THAT poor.

center of the universe

Trick or treat
Smell my feet
Here's a post about the week!
*******************************
Well, actually, this particular collage of photos was from the 22nd. I haven't had a chance to share these pics from the husband's birthday.
River decorated a crown and I made acorn squash stuffed with brown rice, pork and kale. That's not cheese on top, it's an egg. The yolk broke. Funny thing is, I didn't even know what an acorn squash was until the husband brought it to me demanding I stuff it with sumffin'.
(FYI: My husband works with granite so he comes home pretty dusty.)

I made flour tortillas from scratch for the first time ever!! They were stupid easy to make, just really time consuming. I used this recipe here.
And here's me trying my hand at something different from my regular menu of Cajun and Tex-Mex.
Butternut squash chicken coconut currry...stuff.
Butternut squash. Another first for me.
And this happened....
And this glorious moment: The introduction of alcohol sales on the Texas side!
When I say "Texas side"  I mean Texarkana, TX. Texarkana is in Texas AND Arkansas. Until now you could only buy alcohol on the Arkansas side. A vote changed that a couple of months ago. Weee!!! Soon, wine will be within walking distance!
I came across this amazing parking job at Walmart.
We finally got to try a new place downtown called Pecan Point Brewing. The only pub that sells craft beers and has a family friendly dining area here. They were out of their house brew... kind of unacceptable for a brewery, I know.... so we didn't even get what we came for. No, that's a lie. We got the duck fat fries everyone's been raving about. They're greasy, covered in smoked sea salt and quite terrific.
The menu was limited and the prices are waaaay too high for us low income bums so we won't be visiting there often. It was nice to get out of the house though. We were mostly able to go thanks to a very generous gift from a very awesome blogger friend. Thank you! You know who you are!
And here are the kiddies, all dressed up for church.
Check out the details on  River's shirt.
  Sup?
I seriously hate stretchy, synthetic materials so this skirt has been in the closet for a while. I got it from eBay super cheap and just assumed it was cotton when I ordered it. Oh well. It's one of those convertible dress thingies but my tay-tays are WAAAY too big for it to be a dress.
I wore it today because I rarely wear prints and I was in the mood for something a little different.
Alright, I'm going to go drink myself into a caffeine fueled mania and pin a thousand images on Pinterest until I crash just in time for bed.

Holliedays lookeeloo

Howdy folks! I'm in a wee bit of a hurry so I'm going to just dump out some photos from yesterday.
We spent Christmas at my in-laws' house. It was a three hour long drive, holding in farts and listening to Radiohead- dislocating my shoulder to bottle feed a starving infant in the back seat. Fun times.
There's really no need to describe each photo, here ya go. Enjoy.

^River got the same jacket from two different people. What are the odds?!?!^

^I got to meet my newest nephew for the first time!!^

Okie dokie. That's all for now.
My house hasn't been cleaned in a couple of days, I still need to unpack, do laundry and get everyone dressed and ready to take a short trip to see my folks this evening. Weeee.
I hope everyone had a FAN-FRIGGIN-TASTIC Christmas!!
