NY: Day Three

DAY THREE!!
This was the day of the wedding of my husband's sister Jess and her groom Doug. It was another firggin' hot day and the wedding was outdoors in a park. Gimme a break folks! By now I'm realizing that it's not the heat that's bothering me. It was all the sweating. I'm a sweaty beast. But I'm not not just any sweater, I'm a face perspirer. That's the worst kind. You know with the upper-lip water beads and the brow streams? Yeah, that's me.
**********
For the wedding I wore a $10 silk-blend dress from Ross, my late grandmothers necklace and a floppy sun hat bought from a street vendor in NY for $5. The blue velvet heels are from Citi Trends.
River wore this adorable hand-me-down sailor suit.

Caleb wore his "smug suspenders" and a thrifted dress shirt.
 ************
Thank God the wedding ceremony was quick, a little over five minutes long. I love how they just cut to the chase and got married, ya know? No fluff and frills, just marriage.
I just wanted to share this photo with you all. The groom had grooms-ladies. How cute is that?!?!
The bridesmaids wore casual dresses in their choice of green. Love!
Because the ceremony was so brief, there was no need for the couple to rent chairs. We just stood around and watched. Now that's an awesome way to save money on a wedding!

The reception was awesome with ridiculously good food, wine and beer and a live jazz band but it got even better when this guy chased down a passing ice cream truck.
The truck pulled in and began to take orders. I called out to him, "Turn your music back on!" and he did.
What's an ice cream truck without it's dinky dink music-box tunes?!?!
One of the wedding guests hopped into the truck and began to hand out ice-cream to everyone who wanted some and paid for it all!

During the reception, my husband told me he had a surprise for me.
He took me on a short trek to see a lighthouse for the very first time! I'm so easy to please.
While we were romancing and prancing at the lighthouse, the rest of the wedding crew jumped into the Hudson - suits, dresses and all.

Later that evening we went back into Tarrytown and had a late night dinner at the Bistro. I had changed into a super cute outfit (red tunic, skinny jeans and boots)  and now I'm kicking myself in the rear for not getting photos! Poo!

So what's up for Day four??
Too much alcohol, a festival and various raw meats. Stay tuned!!

it's our anniversary so that means no WFW

Sorry party people, no Wacky Fashion Wednesday today. Today is me and husband's third wedding anniversary and I wanted to take this opportunity to share with you a few of our wedding pics. You'll probably notice that I was sixty pounds lighter at the time but hey, it's all good. I'm not fat- I'm well fed and happy!

A couple of guys from our church made us home brewed beer for our reception. What swell chaps!
We had a small private church wedding followed by a giant "everyone's-invited" outdoors dance party reception.

There was beer and drumming and Irish songs at the reception.

Later in the night after all the old folks had gone home, I busted out my zils and gave a little belly dance.
Sad fact: I stopped belly dancing shortly after we got married. That's when I packed on the pounds. I stopped dancing because our apartment was a converted 1930s mansion and the floors were very sensitive so when I practiced, everything would fall off the walls and shelves!! Plus my husband would sit and watch me and critique me during my practices and try to coach me and that reeeeeally irritated me.
So it's been three years. We rarely argue, we fart and burp and laugh about it, we watch documentaries about art and dance and murderers and giant squids. I take care of the house and he brings home the bacon. He buys me delicious imported beers and I cook him bangers and mash. He lets me paint his face and dress him up in silly little costumes and never complains when I ask him to buy baby formula at midnight.
I am happy.

in the... bedroom...

Sunlight was pouring into our bedroom in a very sentimental mommy blogger kind of way. Blah, blah, blah, lovely. So now that I've said that I think I'm supposed to talk about how the sun beaming through the window made me feel and then follow that up by quoting some poetry or a some song lyrics.
I'm not going to do that. Why? Because that's not my style and abundant sunlight in our bedroom means only one thing to me...
PHOTOS WITH NO FLASH!! NAKED PARTY TIME!!

Allow me to narrate: Ahem.
So this is me au naturel in my delightfully mismatched clothes.
Left: Ralph Steadman "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" poster. It was on our Amazon wedding registry and someone actually got it for us.
Right: Photo of me and the husband at our wedding reception
Baby River, pitching a fit because I wouldn't pick him up.
Mama gave in.
This is my "I don't have anywhere to put this stuff" board. I made it by gluing fabric to a vintage picture frame.
Left: What's Boxtree? Boxtree is a band I was in about six years ago. Those are some buttons I made for us.
Right: I can't stand empty picture frames, so if I have nothing to put in them, I'll make my own art.

Bonus Photos
Remember that band I mentioned? Boxtree. Well here's us in 2006. Can you guess which one is me? Can you find me??? Stop laughing.
And here's us having a little reunion at my wedding reception in 2010.

Super extra bonus:
Hopelessly single me wound up marrying our cello player's big brother just four years later. Cute no?
Join a band. Find a man.
