my pregnancy interview

I've been finding myself wanting to do a post about random facts about my pregnancy but I've been having a hard time just starting from scratch. I found this little survey and decided that this is a good place to start. I cut out quite a few questions to keep from writing a novel.
What made you think you might be pregnant? My cycle wasn't even late yet, but I wasn't feeling my normal "you're about to start" symptoms. So I knew something was up.

What day did you find out? I'm not sure of the exact date but I know it was in early May, just a few days before our second wedding anniversary.

How did you feel when you found out? A little ambivalent. We weren't trying to get pregnant and I was starting to settle into the idea of not having kids at all. We had our own little method of avoiding pregnancy and it worked for almost two years but I knew that no matter what we did, if God wanted us to have a baby, we're going to get pregnant. So I've always been open to the possibility that it could happen- and when it does, just get over it and prepare yourself. So it was kind of a grin and bear it kind of thing at the very beginning.

Who was with you? I took the first test in the middle of the day when I was home alone. There was a very faint plus sign. I dug it up out of the trash a while later to check it again and it had faded all together so I thought it was all in my head. So I took another one first thing the next morning to make sure and the plus sign was stronger but I thought I was still  imagining things so I made my husband come check it out. So he was there.

Who was the first person you told? I think my mom.

How did your parents react? My mom was like... "Ok.... well... um... ok." Probably because I had called her few months earlier crying about how I didn't want to have kids- I think she didn't want to upset me by getting too excited. My dad was like,  "Uuuuummm... that's good...." He's not good with expressing himself.

How did his parents react? His mother cried with joy. She loves grandbabies. The more the merrier.

When was your first appointment? a couple of weeks after  I took my home tests I went to a pregnancy clinic for a free ultrasound... actually just to confirm that I really was pregnant and not developing some terrible female disease. Sure enough there was an odd shaped thing on the screen with a flickering light for a heartbeat. I was like, "I'll take that over cancer any day!"
When is your due date? Somewhere around January 15th.

How far along are you?  35 weeks

Have you had any ultrasounds? Just 2- one to confirm the pregnancy and one to check on the baby at 17 weeks after I was experiencing some severe abdominal pains (just really bad growing pains).

Have you heard the heartbeat? Many times and now it's one of my favorite sounds in the world.

Are you finding out the gender or waiting until birth?  We were going to wait but we plan on having one more ultrasound before I give birth just to check up on the baby and we've decided to just go ahead find out then. I mostly want to find out because we've received a ton of baby girl clothes and very little boy clothes- so if it's a boy we really need to get more clothing ASAP.

What do you want?  I don't have much of a preference but I always joke about wanting the girliest girl in the world because my husband is pretty rough with kids. Watching the way his plays with our nephew scares the crap out of me but my nephew LOVES it! He loves to be tossed in the air at terrifying heights, spun upside down, being tickled until he can't breathe, getting busted lips and laughing about it... I'm hoping a girly girl won't dig that kind of play.

What does the daddy want? No preference but I know deep down he wants a rough and tumble boy.

Who is going to be with you during birth? Just my husband and the midwives.

Are you going to videotape it? I would like to have someone try to catch a little footage of each stage of labor for my personal pregnancy and birth documentary I'm working on.

Natural or medicated? We're going natural.

Are you scared about the labor? The idea of the pain doesn't scare me... but the thought of something going wrong does.

Do you have a name picked out? Yup but we're not telling... mostly because I don't want the baby's room to get filled up with a bunch of monogrammed stuff that I'll probably hate.

Have you felt the baby move? Of course.

Do you have stretch marks yet? Heh, yeah. And I don't mean a couple of cute little marks here and there... my stomach is destroyed and I knew it would happen (no one in my family escapes pregnancy stretch-mark free).
Don't be fooled into thinking you can avoid stretch marks with special creams and fancy lotions. If you're going to get them, you're going to get them no matter what you do. I'm not trying to suggest that you don't try to prevent them...you just might get lucky. I'm just giving a heads up that you need to be prepared and accept the possibility that you might be able to prevent them.

What was your first symptom? Grumpiness and bloating.

What is the baby’s room theme? The baby's room is also my office so it's got a colorful gender neutral bohemian feel to it. Not too baby, not too adult.

Will you use cloth diapers? After much research and investigating, I've decided that cloth diapers just aren't something I want to deal with.

Breastfeeding or formula? Boobies all the way.

What is your favorite pregnancy book? I guess my fave would be the old stand by "What to Expect When You're Expecting" but I like to read books about labor and birth. I mostly get my pregnancy info from the internet.

What do you look forward to doing again once you are no longer pregnant? effortlessly rolling over in bed, cleaning my house without getting fatigued in thirty minutes, putting on my socks and underwear without having to hang on to something for balance and support and having a nice rare steak with a giant glass of beer.

Are you pregnant right now? Then feel free to take this little interview form to make a blog post out of! Be sure to share the link to your blog post with me! I'd love to read your answers!

  2. We cloth diaper! I was really intimidated by it and didn't want to deal with it - but I just throw a load of diapers in the wash in the morning for a rinse, then wash, then another rinse, then hang 'em up! They've been pretty non-hassle so far and we've had minor blowouts.
